New Welcome Sign
Hythe’s
Chamber representative presented designs for a new welcome sign on the
approaches to Hythe. The old signs have deteriorated from weather and
have fallen apart. Council welcomed this design by the Chamber.
MLS Wayne Drysdale
Council
appreciated a visit from Wayne Drysdale. He talked about the twining
of Hwy 43. The twining through Sturgeon Lake region will begin in spring
2011. Also, the engineer has been hired to work on plans for twining
around Beaverlodge. He assured council that rumors of PST by the
Conservative government are false, caucus have no plans for PST in
Alberta.
Metal Bridge at School
The
metal bridge crossing the ditch on 103rd Street at 105th Avenue to the
School will be put in place later this week. Nine (9) children will use
the bridge crossing the ditch to go to school.
Annual Sewer Flushing
The
annual sewer flushing is complete. Please refer to the article in the
paper – Got FOG? We appreciate your co-operation in helping to prevent
sewer problems.
New Pump for Lift Station
Council
approved the purchase of a new pump for the lift station – this is to
have one on hand for emergencies or breakdowns at the lift station.
Subdivision Approved
Council approved the subdivision application for Part Lot C, Plan 4147 RS for the Hythe Community Centre.
Next Council Meeting
The
November 22, 2010 meeting is at 7:30 pm. After this meeting the time
will return to 5:30pm on meeting dates. Council meetings are held the
second and forth Mondays of each month unless Monday is a holiday and
then it will be held on the Tuesday. There will be only one meeting in
December, July and August.

Recycle Program Council is looking further into recycling for Hythe Residents. Your comments on whether you would like to continue using the plastic bag system or going to recycle carts – like the garbage carts – would be appreciated in writing to the Village of Hythe, Box 416. Council is also looking into doing something to help with recycling of used cardboard.
Metal Bridge at School Council approved providing a metal bridge to cross the ditch on 103rd Street at 105th Avenue. Nine (9) children cross the deepened ditch here to go to school. Peace Wapiti School Division will help with the costs.
Annual Sewer Flushing Public Works have been doing the annual sewer line flushing with the help from Beaverlodge this past week. .
Public Hearing A Public Hearing will be held December 13, 2010 at 6:30 pm at the Village of Hythe Municipal Office – The purpose is to amend the zoning for the Hythe Community Centre to permit institutional uses and to include limited commercial use.
Speed Limits at School in Hythe New 30 km speed limit signs are posted at the school zones. Thank you for adhering to these speed signs protecting the safety of our youth.

Organization Meeting At the Village of Hythe Organization Meeting held October 12, Gary Burgess was appointed as Mayor of Hythe; Lyle Sipe was appointed as Deputy Mayor; and Carol Descoteaux, Cheryl Philips and Krista Olson were appointed as Councillors.
Sewer Rehabilitation Work on the main sewer line along the Highway was finished and the Village is pleased to announce that it came in under budget by approximately $24,000.00.
Three-way Stop A 3-way stop sign was installed at the intersection of 107 Street and 101 Avenue. Kindly take care at this intersection.
Hythe Fire Siren Fire Chief, John Woltjer gave a very informative report to council on the history of the Hythe Fire Siren, which is printed in paper. We are grateful to John and all the volunteers on the Fire Department who see to the safety of our community. Thank you for all the hours of sacrifice you give to serve us. Council moved that the fire sirens will remain in the community as they insure the swift response of our volunteers to fires, motor vehicle accidents and high hazard alarms.
Assessor for the Village Chris Gardner from the County of Grande Prairie has been designated land and property assessor for the Village of Hythe.
COPPs (Citizens on Patrol Program) The Village would like to get this program up and running in Hythe. Please pick up an information package and application from the Village Office is you are interested in becoming involved. Let’s help fight crime in our Community.

Summer, 2010 Sidewalk Repairs Council has approved funding for repairs to the sidewalks in the downtown core, on the East side up to the bank and as well as some on the west side in this Block. Repair work to be done by Wapiti Gravel, cost allocated $30,000.00.
Gravel for Trailer Court
Council approved gravel for the roads in the trailer court – this has now been graveled, cost allocated $3,200.00.
Public Works Employee Welcome to Matthew Robertson who has been hired as our new public works employee.
Sewer Rehabilitation Main Line has been hired to begin construction to replace the old sewer line along the highway form 100 St to 103 St. (God Wind Ministries to Tags Food and Gas Bar. Please accept our apology for any inconvenience this may cause you. The work will be done as quickly as possible, cost allocated $430,000.00
New Parking Lot for trucks Work is being done to prepare the land on the South East side of the arena for a parking lot for commercial trucks. When this is completed, trucks will no longer be allowed to park on 101 Avenue across from the new fire hall or within the Village. Exception will be for delivery only, cost allocated $3,500.00.
Cemetery Committee Council and Staff have appreciated the many years of service which the Shails have given to the community of Hythe – maintaining the Hythe Cemetery and the Historical Society. We extend our deepest sympathy to Donna over the passing of her beloved husband, Eldon.
Wendal Hommy has now been appointed to the Hythe Cemetery Committee.

Back Alleys Council has approved that the back alleys south of 103rd Street, including East of the Curling Rink be leveled and graveled this summer.
New WellA new well was drilled north of the campground. Well testing was completed on Saturday, May 22. This new well will provide the necessary and needed water for the anticipated growth of the community of Hythe.
Resignation of Public Works Employee Council accepted the resignation Taylor Rudrum, affective May 31, 2010. He is moving on to further his career. Council expressed appreciation to Taylor for his years of service to the Village. We wish you all the best Taylor.
Parking North of 107th Street Council has asked that there be “No Parking” off of the pavement, on the empty lots on the north side of 107th Street. Parking of vehicles off of the pavement is tearing up the drainage ditch and breaking down the new pavement which will cause erosion of the road. Eventually the cost of repairs will be to the tax payers, so we would ask that you refrain from parking off of the pavement. Thank you for your cooperation.
Weed Inspectors In cooperation with the County of Grande Prairie weed inspectors are appointed to check properties for obnoxious weeks like Mayweed and Canada Thistle. If they find these on properties letters will be sent with timelines to remove the weeds. See that these weeds are pulled from your property.

Hythe Camp GroundThe Hythe Camp ground was opened May 1, 2010. New campground attendant is Tina Unger.
Street Gutters Thank you for your patience as Public Works cleaned the gutters and boulevards around the Village. This will improve drainage. Washing of gutters and street sweeping will begin soon.
Resignation of Councillor Council accepted the resignation of Councillor Rhonda Tofteland, affective April 31, 2010. Thanks to Ms. Tofteland for all your years of service to the Community of Hythe.
Curbside Recycling Council is looking at the curbside recycle program. Many would rather have containers than the plastic bags. We are researching what is available to our community.
Citizens On Patrol Program Cst. Milan Kirschner presented the C.O.P.P.’s program to interested community residents on Monday evening after council. Volunteers are needed to be the “eyes” and “ears” to assist in the deterrence of crime. If you can volunteer for the program stop by the Village office to pick up an application package.

RCMP
Quarterly Report
Sgt. Finley
presented the quarterly report for the Hythe Region. The number of criminal offenses is down for
this period as compared to last quarter. However, during this time frame a
number of break-in offences occurred in the community. Investigations to date have supported
charging 4 adult subjects. Others yet need to be questioned. C.O.P.P. (Citizens On Patrol Program) was
discussed and a presentation of the program will be held at the Village Office
on May10 at 7:30 pm. Residents
interested prevention of crime and helping with this program are encouraged to
attend.
County Assessor
Bruce Cameron is the new
county assessor, having taken over from Ken Mack. Due to the number of inequities in the assessments,
as land values have not kept pace with the market values, a reassessment of
properties was necessary.
2010
Mill Rate
Council approved keeping the 2010 mill rate the same as last
year’s –which was 9% for residential properties and 19% for nonresidential
properties.
Ken
Brandsater Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award
Renay Morgan is the 2010 recipient of the Ken Brandsater
Memorial Volunteer Award. Honorable

Council
approved the grading of the roads in the Hythe Trailer Park. This project will commence soon, weather
permitting and availability of contractor.

New Councillor
Hythe
Council welcomed and sworn in the Village’s newest council member – Cheryl Phillips. Councillor Phillips and her family have
resided in Hythe for four years now.
They come to us from Ontario. Councillor Phillips is employed by Canada
Post and works in our own post office.

Arena Loan
Council
approved a loan of $60,000 to the Hythe and District Athletic Association for
the replacement of the arena boards from wood to life-time guarantee steel and plastic. Over $85,000 has been raised for the project
with application to Gov. of Alberta for matching grant money which will be used
to repay the Village’s loan.
Animal Control
SPCA
no longer holds the animal control contract for the County of G.P. The County now has its own animal control
officers. Calls should be directed to

Tax Auction:
Tax
Auction will be June 14 at 12:00 noon for Lot
18, Block 2, Plan 682EO. The parcel will
be offered for sale subject to a reserve bid and to the reservations and
conditions contained in the existing Certificate of Title.
COPS Program
Council
is inviting the RCMP of Beaverlodge to the next council meeting to discuss the implementation
of COPS (Citizens on Patrol). If you are
interested in volunteering for this program please let us know at the Village

Side Recycling
Curb side recycling will be every other week beginning,
Friday, April 2. First week will be for
plastics and tins, washed and labels removed; the following pick-up, April 16 for paper, newsprint, glossy
paper, office paper, file folders. . . and so on in a continuous two-week
rotation.
Municipal
Sustainability Plan
Council has approved the Municipal Sustainability plan. A public meeting is planned for April 15 at
7:00 pm at the Hythe Community Centre.
We would encourage as many as can to attend this meeting. Your input into the future of Hythe is
crucial.
Hythe Regional Land Fill
A motion was approved at council that the old Hythe Regional
Land fill be used for the
disposal of inert material like concrete, pavement, and cement blocks.
